Frequently Asked Questions
Starting therapy can bring up many questions – these answers are here to help you feel informed, supported, and at ease as you consider taking the next step.
Do I need a referral to see a psychologist?
You don’t need a referral to book an appointment. If you would like to access Medicare rebates, you’ll need a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP. You’re welcome to begin therapy at any time, with or without a referral.
Who do you work with?
I work with adolescents, adults, and parents/carers. I support people navigating a range of challenges, including trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, stress, relationship and family difficulties, parenting challenges, and life transitions. I offer a respectful, inclusive, and neuro-affirming space for people of all backgrounds and identities.
What can I expect in the first session?
Your first session is a gentle starting point. We’ll focus on what’s been happening in your life and what has brought you to therapy, at a pace that feels safe for you. There’s no expectation to share everything straight away — we work collaboratively to build understanding, trust, and a sense of safety.
What is your approach to therapy?
My approach is trauma-informed, client-centred, and strengths-based. Together, we look beyond diagnoses to understand what’s happening beneath the surface, including how past experiences have shaped your wellbeing. Therapy is a collaborative process, grounded in respect for your lived experience and inner strengths.
What types of therapy do you use?
I draw on a range of evidence-based therapies, including EMDR, person-centred therapy, trauma-focused therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), strengths-based therapy, and psychoeducation. The approach we use is tailored to your needs, goals, and readiness.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes. I offer in-person sessions on Wednesdays at Wheelers Hill, and online (telehealth) sessions on Fridays. Online therapy provides flexible access to support and can be just as effective as in-person sessions for many people.
